Assam government today said the Employment Generation Mission has ordered an internal inquiry to probe alleged irregularities in the project and report of involvement of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in such irregularities.

In a written reply to a query by BJP MLA Narayan Deka, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the Project Director has formed an 'Internal Enquiry Team' to probe alleged irregularities.

Employment Generation Mission (EGM), Assam is a registered society (under Societies Registration Act, 1860) under the state government.

Patowary was responding to the question by Deka if any enquiry is being conducted about the complaint by one Bhaskar Talukdar about irregularities in Employment Generation Mission and alleged involvement of Gogoi in it.

"The enquiry is still going on," Patowary said, adding another investigation is going on by the Vigilence and Anti-Corruption wing regarding the case number 31(7), dated July 26, 2016, for the alleged irregularities.

Commenting on the development, the former Chief Minister told media outside the House that the current BJP-led state government is "very vindictive and I have never seen such a revengeful attitude by anyone".

"Let them prove the corruption. Even if in some department some corruption took place, how can I be responsible for everything? Is Rajnath Singh responsible for the corruption in CRPF and BSF?" asked Gogoi.
