The Hill Tribal Council (HTC) had closed the border at Moreh on January 14 affecting Indo-Myanmar trade following the explosion of a grenade at the house of HTC chairman Jangmang Haokip by suspected militants. The HTC was demanding the arrest of the culprits, officials said.
An agreement was reached yesterday between the strikers and authorities under which the latter would make an effort to nab the culprits, official sources said, adding trade resumed from 11.30 AM yesterday.
The trade involved crores of rupees and the closure of the border during the strike affected thousands of traders besides the state government losing the revenues, sources said.
Suspected militants had exploded a powerful grenade at the house of Haokip on January 14 last at Moreh town but no one was injured, the sources said, adding that police would investigate whether the incident was connected with monetary demand from Haokip by a militant outfit.
