IOB beat Army XI 2-1 in Murugappa hockey

BPCL will now play Indian Oil Corporation, while Air India take on defending champions ONGC in the semi-finals.

In their final league fixture today to decide the table leader in Group-B, IOC got the better of Air India 3-2 in a rain affected match.

After 24 minutes of play, heavy rains stopped proceedings not for 45 minutes. When play was stopped the teams shared two goals each through Probhjot Singh (IOC) and Vikas Pillay (AI).

Air India, however, surged 2-1 ahead through Joga Singh, but Roshan Minz drew parity few minutes before the break.

Crossing over, Raghunath converted a penalty corner in the 24th minute to score the winner.

 

Earlier, in a inconsequential tie Indian Railways defeated Integral Coach Factory 3-1.

K K Bharath and Gagandeep Singh(2) scored for the Railways, while Ramesh Babu reduced the margin for ICF.

In the match between IOB and Army, the local outfit led the first half through a superb goal by Vinod, who dazzled following a pass from Muthanna after Adam Sinclair laid the road and then Bupinder Singh made it 2-0.

In the 15th minute, there was a melee inside IOB circle and it resulted in a penalty stroke in favour of Army which was converted by Jasroja.

After a day's rest tomorrow, the two sem-finals are will be held on Saturday.
