IOC's LPG tanker overturns in Thane; nearby villages evacuated

A LPG tanker of Indane, which is the LPG division of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), today overturned on the Mumbai-Agra highway in Kasara here, following which villagers in and around the area were evacuated, officials said.

"The mishap occurred this morning near Chintamanwadi village. As a result, there was gas leakage in the surrounding areas," Thane District Disaster Control Officer Dinesh Kurhade said.

"The district officials rushed to the spot and evacuated villagers residing in and around one km from the accident spot. There were no casualties," he said.

Kurhade also said tehasildar Avinash Koshti, police and officials of Indane reached the spot and plugged the leakage.
 

According to the officer, vehicular traffic on either side was halted as a precautionary measure and it resumed after around 3 PM.

IOC could not be reached for comments.
