Manmohan was grilled on Monday for two hours by Crime Branch officials at police headquarters in south Mumbai where he was posed various questions including how he knew Chandnani and when did the latter approached to finance his film.

"Manmohan told us that he came in contact with Chandnani through a common friend. Over some conversation, Chandnani expressed his willingness to finance his film to which Manmohan agreed. Then Chandnani gave a cheque to the producer for the film," a police officer told PTI.

"The producer (Manmohan) claimed that he had no knowledge that Chandnani was a bookie," the officer said, adding that Manmohan has been asked to produce all finance-related documents of the film at the Crime Branch office.

The officer, meanwhile, claimed police are in possession of pictures in which actor Bobby Deol is seen with Chandnani. However at this stage of the probe, police feel it is not necessary to call Deol.

"Actors are usually spotted with film financiers. There has to be some strong ground if we want to summon somebody. As of now we don't feel Deol should be called," the officer said.

Chandnani's name had figured during the interrogation of an arrested bookie, Sonu, who revealed that he used to receive orders from the former, they said. (More)
