Passing interim orders on a petition filed by a Superintendent of Police, Madras High Court in an order today held held that the empanelment for IPS along with six others for the year 2013 would not lapse on December 31.

Coming to the rescue of M Manohar, a SP cadre officer, whose IPS conferment is about to lapse due to a complaint by an MLA, Justice M Sathyanarayanan held that his empanelment for IPS along with six others for the year of 2013 would not lapse on December 31.

Manohar former SP of Madurai rural district has moved the court saying his promotion and appointment to IPS was being stalled by police top brass who were acting on a complaint against him by an MLA.

The judge gave two more weeks for the government to argue the case, but made it clear that the July 21, 2014 notification of the Some Secretary would not lapse on December 31.

Every year, the UPSC prepares a list of eligible officers from state police service for conferring IPS status on them. A list of officers shortlisted by a selection committee is sent by the State Home Department for approval by the UPSC before a notification is issued.
