IPS officer Amitabh Choudhary, Special Secretary with Home department and president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, today resigned from government service.

"He has submitted his resignation to the state home department, requesting it to accept his letter and relieve him from the services," a senior government official told PTI here.

Choudhary was lauded for successfully organising the January 19 ODI between India and England in the newly laid JSCA International Cricket Complex.

Asked the reason behind his sudden decision, the official said "may be he wants to take a plunge in politics or may be he is disappointed with something else".

Choudhary has another 7 and half years of service left.

His resignation comes a week after Rajeev Kumar taking over as Jharkhand Police Chief from G S Rath who retired on February 1.
