Police also claimed to have seized 24 bottles of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from the vehicle in which Ajay Singh, an IPS officer of 2009 batch, was escpaing to his hometown in Bharatpur district along with his brother to evade arrest.

Ajay Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Police, was taken to Ajmer for interrogation in connection with a corruption case and placed under arrest, while his brother Hemant was arrested under excise act, IG-ACB Umesh Mishra told PTI.

"Singh left Ajmer as soon as he got information that the ACB had trapped an Assistant Sub-Inspector who had taken a bribe of Rs one lakh from a man on his behalf," Mishra said.

One Bhawani Singh had lodged a complaint with the ACB in Ajmer that Assistant Sub Inspector Prem Singh, posted with Ramganj police station, was demanding bribe.

The IPS officer was investigating a case of fraud by a multi-level marketing company and five persons were arrested in connection with that case in Ajmer.

The ASI told the ACB team that the IPS officer pressurised him to demand Rs 2 lakh as bribe from Bhawani for not making him an accused in the case, police claimed.

However, the deal was finalised at Rs. 1.5 lakh and Bhawani gave the ASI Rs. One lakh when he was trapped in the police station, they alleged.

"Ajay Singh was moving towards Kaman, Bharatpur along with his advocate brother but a team of Jaipur police on information by the ACB stopped their vehicle near Kanota on Jaipur-Agra national highway in Jaipur district", he said.

During checking, two cartons of illegal IMFL were recovered from the vehicle. The 34-year-old officer's brother was arrested and the vehicle and the liquor bottles were seized.

The ACB team was also chasing their vehicle and took the officer back to Ajmer for investigation, he said.

An officer of Jaipur police commissionerate said that the IPS officer will also be arrested under the excise act later.

"The ASI said that he followed the diktats of Ajay Singh and demanded the bribe for him. Primary investigation indicated involvement of the IPS officer so he was taken into our custody and place under arrest tonight in the case", police said.
