The government also issued orders for the appointment of senior IPS officer Pranay Sahay as the chief of country's largest paramilitary force CRPF.
An official spokesperson said the appointment of Deol, a 1977 batch IPS officer from AGMU cadre, will be on deputation basis from the date of assumption of charge of the post.
She will hold the post till her retirement which is on October 31, 2014 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the spokesperson said.
Deol was appointed as Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh in July 2010.
Sahay's name as CRPF DG was cleared on October 15 by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The order regarding Sahay's appointment comes more than a fortnight after incumbent K Vijay Kumar retired on September 30.
