Facing arrest in a corruption case, senior IPS officer of Manipur-Tripura cadre Joydeep Nayak today approached the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

The top cop was booked by the anti-corruption wing of Odisha police for his alleged role in misappropriation of Rs 88 lakh meant for computer education of SC and ST students.

During his deputation to Odisha and while working as the IGP in Human Rights Protection Cell, the IPS officer disbursed the amount allegedly extending undue official favour to a local computer institution in violation of financial norms and without floating any open tender.

The accused officer was also charged with furnishing false and fabricated documents, money bills, utilization and course completion certificates and flouting official orders.

Five others, including an OPS officer and a senior stenographer were also booked in this case.

While the rest of the accused were arrested on June 22, the IPS officer had returned back to his parent cadre on June 2 after completion his deputation tenure.

The state police has then tracked him at a New Delhi government hospital, from where he again left unnoticed.
