IPS officer Nisar Tamboli, currently posted as Commandant of SRPF, had to be hospitalised after he collapsed while running the Mumbai Marathon today, police said.

The 47-year-old Tamboli, who had participated in the full Marathon (42-kms) collapsed while running and lost consciousness. He was rushed to a private hospital and admitted in the ICU, said police.

In hospital he was given intravenous fluids and soon recovered, said the cops who admitted him.

According to doctors, inadequate intake of water prima facie seems to be the reason for loss of consciousness and subsequent collapse, said police.

Dr Shoaib Padaria, senior cardiologist is monitoring the health of Tamboli.

He had worked as DCP Crime in Mumbai Police a few years back.
