An IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh has been transferred following allegation of extra-marital affair against him, an official said today.

The state government yesterday transferred Gwalior Senior Superintendent of Police, Gwalior, Pramod Verma as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and attached him to the police headquarters in Bhopal after his wife complained to DGP Nandan Dube about his alleged affair with a woman police officer, a public relations officer at police headquarters here said.

"Taking the matter seriously, the DGP has handed over the matter to Crime Against Women's Cell for probe," he said.

Verma's wife, in the complaint to the DGP, alleged that her husband was having an extra-marital relation with a woman police officer. She complained that in the name of "working on a serious mission," Verma spent hours with the woman at the office situated in the official residence, he said.

She also mentioned in the complaint that when she objected to their long meetings, Verma warned her against disclosing it to anyone saying their mission was "confidential" in nature, the officer said.

Efforts to contact Verma on the issue proved futile.
