Iraqi officials say gunmen and a suicide bomber have attacked a coffee shop north of Baghdad, leaving at least 13 people dead and 15 wounded.

The officials say the attack in the town of Balad started with three gunmen, armed with machine guns, shooting into the crowd in the cafe shortly after yesterday. Once police arrived at the scene, two of the attackers detonated their suicide vests.

Balad is 80 kilometers north of Baghdad. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

The attack comes on the heels of a two-day wave of bombings in the Iraqi capital that killed nearly 100 people.
