Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) Chairman T S Vijayan today launched Insurance products sale and services through common service centres (CSCs) here.

CSCs, being set up under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), are envisioned to facilitate a platform that will enable government and the private and social sector organisations to integrate their social and commercial goals and take benefits of information and communication tools (ICT) to the remotest corners of the country.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the CSCs are known as the 'Mee Seva centres'.

"Insurance companies must aim to make sale of insurance remunerative so as to motivate the village-level executives to sell insurance products leading to improved penetration," the IRDA Chairman said.

To encourage insurance penetration in rural areas, IRDA has issued guidelines for utilising the CSC network in India in 2013.

Based on these guidelines, the License to CSC e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC SPV) was granted in September by the insurance regulator to work as an authorised intermediary to market specifically approved insurance products and services through the Rural Authorised Persons (Village Level Entrepreneur's), under the CSC Scheme of National e-Governance Plan.
