The Irrigation department would help the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation in cleaning the Buddha Nullah, which passes through this industrial city, Punjab Irrigation Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said today.

To get first hand information about the current state of affairs of Budha Nullah, Dhillon, accompanied by Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, Municipal Corporation Commissioner G K Singh Dhaliwal, and other senior officials visited the Budha Nullah.

Dhillong pulled up the Irrigation department and Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials for not performing the work well and warned them to perform their duties properly or else action would be taken against them, an official release said.

The Irrigation Minister said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had asked him to visit the Budha Nullah personally and make sure the cleanliness work goes on regularly.

Dhillon said that due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and some parts of Punjab recently, the Budha Nullah received excess water, due to which the embankments at some places got weakened.

He said that directions have been issued to the staff to strengthen the embankments so that the Budha Nullah does not overflow in the city.

Dhillon said that at some places where the Nullah has overflowed or can overflow, the concerned officials have been asked to strengthen the embankments by placing sandbags.

Mayor Gohalwaria said that it has also been decided to strengthen the embankments near New Madhopuri, New Shivpuri, Gandhi Nagar, New Kundanpuri, near Central Jail on Tajpur Road, Manna Singh Nagar and Chander Nagar.
