Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj today sought to know why the government had passed an Ordinance on the Food Security Bill when the monsoon session of Parliament is due this month and wondered if this move meant it wants to go in for early polls.

"Monsoon session is due in July itself and the government has recommended Ordinance for the National Food Security Bill. This is a deliberate attempt to denigrate Parliament," she tweeted.

BJP has maintained that it favours a legislation on food security but has certain objections to the draft Food Security Bill. It had said it would support the bill with certain amendments.

Swaraj had earlier said that such a crucial and far-reaching bill should be debated in Parliament and the government should not take the Ordinance route for it.

"Why this hurry? Are they going in for early elections?" she asked.

She had even suggested advancing of the monsoon session of Parliament to debate the Food Security Bill.
