CBI will soon question a senior officer of the Intelligence Bureau in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case regarding the input issued on the threat to life of Chief Minister Narendra Modi in 2004 which resulted in killing of the teenager.

CBI sources said the role of the officer who was posted in State Intelligence Bureau in 2004 had come under the scanner of the agency for the alleged fake input that Modi was on the target of LeT militants.

They said the agency is now planning to question the officer as witness in connection with the probe and asked him to join the probe.

The CBI has also analysed intelligence input generated from the IB here cautioning the state police about LeT's plan to attack BJP leaders L K Advani, Narendra Modi and VHP leader Praveen Togadia, they said.

The sources, who refused to give the name of the IB officer, said people who were handling VIP security wing of the snooping agency will be examined to understand the basis of the alert issued in 2004.

The agency will also investigate the inputs received by Gujarat Police that led to identification of a blue car, in which Ishrat was travelling, as the vehicle in which the alleged terrorists were travelling, they said.

The CBI on the instruction of the Gujarat High Court took over the probe of the fake encounter in which 19-year-old Ishrat, Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004 allegedly by Crime Branch team led by DIG DG Vanzara.
