International Society for Krishna Consciousness's (ISKCON) Annamrita Foundation has tied-up with the Mumbai Metro to run a drive 'daan utsav' to provide meals to children, beginning on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

With the week-long drive, Annamrita aims to sponsor 5,000 children with meals along with 'khichdi drives' which they run at various corporate houses, and this year Annamrita has tied up with the Mumbai Metro to reach out to the heart of the city, according to a statement issued by the ISKCON here.

The Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association has also tied up with Annamrita for the 'daan utsav' (festival of giving) to remind people that a dinner at a restaurant can also help a social cause.

ISKCON has tied up with the Mumbai Metro to serve its patrons 'khichdi' at Andheri, Chakala and Saki Naka metro stations. In return, they have to sponsor food for one child which would cost Rs 450 for the whole year.

This amount, which would have otherwise cost them on an average one meal in a restaurant, would now help in sponsoring food for a child for the whole year, it said.

Annamrita Foundation is the largest mid-day meal project in Maharashtra, working since 2004.
