Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered an administrative inquiry into the alleged plan for the construction of a second Sri Jagannath temple by ISKCON in Puri.
The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central Division) has been asked to inquire into the matter relating to the construction of the mega temple by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and submit its the report within 60 days, an official in the Chief Minister's Office said.
Senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra had on January 18 alleged that ISKCON was planning to construct another Jagannath temple in Puri.
The next day, the Puri Konark Development Authority (PKDA) had issued a 'stop work' order to ISKCON until the disposal of the case.
ISKCON, however, denied the charge and clarified that Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra would not be worshipped at the proposed temple. It would be a Radha-Krishna temple, they said.
Allegations had also been made against ISKCON of land- grabbing to push the proposed project.
The Orissa High Court on January 29 had issued an interim stay till February 17 forbidding any action by PKDA in the matter till further orders.
