ISL to hold referee workshop for AIFF match officials

Hero Indian Super League (ISL) will conduct its annual referees' workshop for AIFF match officials in association with Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) for the second consecutive year starting tomorrow.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited is the recognised official body which manages referee appointments for Premier League, The Football League (Championship, League One, League Two) and The FA competitions in England.

The body, formed in 2001, is tasked with the responsibility of developing excellence in officiating in the English game at professional levels.

A total of 30 AIFF match officials - 15 referees and 15 assistant referees will be trained at the three-day workshop by PGMOL Training and Development Manager Ray Olivier and Premier League Select Referee Philip Dowd.
 

Workshop is designed to cover all relative aspects of game scenarios with focus on maintaining on-pitch discipline, enhancing tactical understanding of the game, managing pressure situation and intensity of officiating at highest level as well as inculcating the core values of refereeing.

The workshop will include knowledge-sharing sessions on topics such as conflict resolution (managing the technical area), crucial decision making (in and around the penalty area), optimising communication (between referee & assistant referee) and referee assessment methods, which are popularly used by PGMOL.

The practical sessions will be filmed to enable sharing instant feedback with the participants via recorded playback of their practice which will help improve the development of referees in India.
