The New York Police Department says it's aware of a newly released Islamic State group video showing images of Times Square but says there's no current or specific threat to the city.
An NYPD spokesman says in a statement issued yesterday that some of the video footage is old but the video reaffirms the message the city remains a top terrorist target. He says the police department will remain vigilant and continue to work with the FBI and the intelligence community.
The NYPD says it will continue to deploy additional counterterrorism teams throughout the city.
Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city won't be intimidated. He says people should continue to live their lives and "enjoy the greatest city in the world."
Democratic Gov Andrew Cuomo says he has directed state agencies to "enhance their preparedness.
That same year, al-Qaysi also facilitated the transfer of
money and weapons to AQAP fighters and was involved in supplying AQAP forces in al-Bayda, the Treasury said.
Yemen-based Ghalib Abdullah al-Zaidi has been designated for acting or on behalf of AQAP.
He has provided AQAP with weapons, funding, and recruits, the Treasury said.
He also helped AQAP expand into parts of Marib Governorate, Yemen.
Syria-based Mostafa Mahamed occupies a senior leadership position in al-Nusrah Front and was subjected to targeted economic sanctions by his home country of Australia in August 2015.
Mahamed has recruited Australians to fight for al-Nusrah Front and has solicited funds to finance al-Nusrah Front's terrorist activities, the Treasury said.
Treasury also designated Libya-based Salmi Salama Salim Sulayman 'Ammar ('Ammar) for acting for or on behalf of and providing financial and material support to IS in the Sinai Peninsula.
This designation is focused on disrupting the activities of one of IS's critical facilitators operating in North Africa, the Treasury said.
This action follows the US designation of ISIL in Libya as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and supports President Barack Obama's strategy to degrade and destroy IS and its affiliates, it said.
