Claiming that commercial wings of space research organisations around the world were growing at a rapid speed, ISRO Chairman A S Kiran Kumar today said ISRO should become more economically viable and earn more revenue by exploiting its space programmes commercially.

He was addressing a national level seminar on "Space Organisations and Research programmes" at the Liquid Propulsion Systems centre at Mahendragiri near here.

The non-government organisations would be encouraged to join ISRO in exploiting its programmes commercially, he said, adding that ISRO should become more economically viable and earn more revenue.

ISRO would focus on more research activities. It would encourage commercial activities of space programmes and ensure that India was among the countries which made commercially exploitable space programmes under 'Make in India' programme, he said.

He also sought suggestions from scientists for exploiting space research programmes. He said research activities in ISRO had been computerised.
