Rahul Gandhi today said that the issues related to defence personnel should be taken from the heart and acceptance of the long pending demand of "one rank, one pension" of the ex-servicemen was one such decision.

The Congress Vice President also assured the ex-servicemen of being on their side and said that he shares their concerns.

Rahul, while interacting with the ex-servicemen at a function organised here near Kangra to felicitate him for accepting the OROP demand, said he had never promised that demand would be accepted, but only said he would make all possible efforts to get the demand accepted.

"You came to me and I promised that I will try my best and we took the decision, which would benefit about 23 lakh ex-servicemen. Our jawans give their lives for the nation and we owe them more than just gratitude.

"I am on your side and share your concerns. You give your life for the country and I will do all that I can to see that your demands are met," he said.

Rahul said that Congress believes in "politics of credibility and working for people".

The Congress leader said that it was a fight of ideology in the country and "our ideology is to take everyone along."

Stressing that he did not believe in making tall promises, Rahul said in 2009 Lok Sabha polls, Congress won only one Mandi seat out of four seats in the state but this time the party would endeavour to win all four seats.
