IT collection falls short by Rs 4,700 cr in West Bengal

Income tax collection in West Bengal during the current financial year which ends on March 31 is still behind the target by more than Rs 4,700 crore.

Chief Commissioner of Income Tax G N Pandey said so far, tax collection was Rs 25,214 crore against the targetted figure of Rs 29,953 crore.

"However, we are hopeful of meeting the target by the end of the fiscal," Pandey told reporters on the sidelines of a programme at the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce programme here.

Last year, the tax collection figure was Rs 24,460 crore.

Pandey also urged the companies to do their advance tax payment.
