The Income Tax Department today urged industry in West Bengal and Sikkim to pay advance tax by March 15, the last date.

"I urge the industry to make advance tax payments by March 15, the last date, as the region was lagging behind in this regard," Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, (WB and Sikkim) C L Denzongpa at a seminar here today.

He said that the target of tax collection from this region for this fiscal was Rs 31,500 crore. Out of that, Rs 29,000 crore had been already collected.

"We are confident to meet and exceed that target," he said.

Regarding tax proposals in the budget, he said that stability had been maintained by not altering the income tax rates.
