Seeking to promote people's participation in urban development issues, an IT initiative that allows citizens to offer technological solutions to various issues was launched here today.
As part of preparation to the ongoing XI Metropolis World Congress 2014, to be held here from October 7 to 10, Telangana government, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Metropolis World Congress and Indian School of Business (ISB) would host 'Hyderabad Urban Hackathon'.
Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao launched the initiative today.

The theme of 'Hackathon' is Social Innovation with Digital Technology and it is open to online submissions of the entries from participants on or before 11:59 PM on September 19.
Citizens can submit their innovative concepts which should be a technological solution in any of the 17 focus areas that include public transportation/intelligent transport systems/urban mobility, sanitation and waste management, local infrastructure including roads, power, according to a release.
The other areas include disaster/crisis management, water supply, urban financing, housing for all, smart cities, parking management, congestion, pricing, non-motorised transport traffic management, security of women, general safety and slum management.
The minister on the occasion suggested that the GHMC be present on the social media to reach out to a large number of people.
