IT officials search AIADMK councillor's house

Income Tax officials today raided the house and godown of a AIADMK councillor at Gudalur, about 80 km from here, police said.

The raid was based on a tip-off that huge amount of unaccounted money was allegedly kept in the house of Syed Ayub Khan, police said.

The search started around 4 PM and is still continuing, with large number of policemen deployed outside the house, they said.

Meanwhile, election department officials received a tip-off that two container-lorries belonging to a leading courier company were proceeding with cash for distribution to voters, they said.

An alert has been sounded at all arterial roads and check posts to intercept the vehicles and carry out search, police said.
 

Meanwhile, officials with the assistance of police and RTO department, managed to intercept a van, and some money has been seized from it, police said, declining to elaborate.
