IT parks to come up in every district of Bengal : Minister

West Bengal Information Technology minister Bratya Basu today said IT parks will come up in every district of the state to boost entrepreneurship.

The IT parks will be set up by the department in collaboration with local chambers of commerce in the coming days, Basu told reporters here on the sidelines of the launch of a book by Globsyn Founder Bikram Dasgupta here.

"This (IT parks) is a part of IT Park Mission of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee," he said adding the total number of IT parks in the districts will be announced soon.

Basu said the environment perception about Bengal has changed to an investment friendly destination in the past six years.
 

"This has been corroborated in the buzz created over the recent Bengal Global Business Summit ... The perception has changed to an environment of entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity resulting in largescale investment proposals in different sectors including IT," he said.

"The IT hub's proximity to the airport, the peaceful living and the infrastructure have made things conducive for Bengal," he said.

Dasgupta, who authored the book 'I Did It My Way', said, "The readers will get to know about the formative years of the Indian IT industry and how a few educated middle class youths transformed the nation through it."

"I have recounted my personal and professional journey in the book," he said.

Earlier HCL co-founder Arjun Malhotra, NIIT Chairman Rajendra S Pawar participated in a session with Dasgupta where they talked about the fast changing scenario in IT sector since the '90s.
