Amid her party's protest alleging misuse of CBI by the Centre in the Saradha scam following state minister Madan Mitra's arrest, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said it seemed that people were being sent to jail now on political considerations too.

"Sending somebody to jail is decided upon by his or her actions. But it seems sending someone to jail is now being decided on the basis of political considerations too. It is turning into a political vendetta and everyone would be sent to jail," the West Bengal CM said while speaking at a programme here.

"If someone goes to jail for committing a theft, then there is nothing to lament. But if one has to go to jail for not committing a theft, it becomes sad for him," Banerjee said without mentioning the arrest of Mitra or Saradah chit fund scam episode.

Following the arrest of Mitra by CBI on December 12, Banerjee had launched a blistering attack against the Centre and BJP, terming his arrest as "political vendetta" and "dirty conspiracy" by BJP and dared the NDA government to arrest her.

She had also alleged that CBI has become "his master's voice" and a "political tool".
