'IT sleuths to keep eye on polling expenditure by candidates'

As many as 56 Income Tax officers will keep an eye on the election expenditures of candidates in the Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad polls in Maharashtra, State Election Commissioner J S Saharia said today.

"56 IT officers will keep a watch on the election expenditure by candidates in the Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad polls," Saharia told reporters here.

"A total of 15 income tax officers will be there in Mumbai and six in Nagpur division", Saharia said.

He also said that an election monitoring committee has been formed for the polls.

Polling for the 10 Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra including that of Mumbai, Thane will be held on February 21.
