IT stocks in limelight; gain up to 3%

IT stocks were in the limelight today, gaining 3 per cent, on positive US economic data, the biggest outsourcing market for the Indian software firms.

Shares of Tech Mahindra rose by 3.07 per cent, while HCL Tech gained 2.59 per cent on the BSE.

Among blue-chips, Infosys rose by 1.65 per cent, while TCS gained 1.22 per cent, Wipro (1.17 per cent) and Hexaware Technologies (0.29 per cent).

The BSE IT index ended 1.63 per cent higher at 9,948.19, the biggest gainer among the 12 sectoral indices.

IT stocks rose on positive reports from US housing data showing the world's largest economy is strengthening.
 

Meanwhile, in the broader market the BSE benchmark Sensex ended at 26,419.55, up 59.44 points.
