The police here today claimed to have solved a murder case of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) sepoy, who was found killed near Akhara village few days back, with the arrest of three people.
The police had found the body of ITBP Sepoy Satnam Singh on the banks of Abohar branch of Sirhind Feeder Canal between Akhara and Dalla villages on September 23 following which a murder case was registered against unidentified people.
The accused have been identified as Rajwinder Kaur, Satnam Singh's fiancee, Pardeep Singh of Bhamipura village near Jagraon and a minor accomplice whose identity was not disclosed.
Pardeep Singh is maternal cousin of Kaur.
The police have also recovered two sharp-edged weapons and a motorcycle used by the accused to commit the crime.
DIG Ludhiana Gursharan Singh Sandhu and SSP Jagraon Surjit Singh informed that Satnam Singh, a resident of Bhagoke village in Ferozepur, was allegedly killed by Pardeep Singh and his minor accomplice while Rajwinder Kaur was allegedly involved in hatching the conspiracy.
The accused were traced on the basis of phone calls made and received by the victim from his mobile phone and during questioning, the accused broke down and confessed their crime, the SSP said.
"Satnam Singh got engaged to Kaur some time back. She did not want to marry him because she liked her cousin Pardeep Singh. Kaur, with the help of Pardeep Singh, tried to break her engagement with Satnam Singh but when they failed, they decided to kill him," the DIG said.
"On September 23, Pardeep Singh called Satnam Singh to Jagraon on the pretext of seeking his advice to join the Indian Army. Pardeep Singh and his minor accomplice met Satnam Singh at a juice bar where he made him drink juice laced with some sedatives," the SSP said.
Following the incident, both the accused took Satnam Singh to an isolated location near the canal and killed him with the sharp-edged weapons, SSP Singh said.
