U K broadcaster ITV has ordered India-set period drama "Beecham House" from Gurinder Chadha.

The "Bend It Like Beckham" director has written the series with Paul Mayeda Berges, reported Deadline.

The pair previously worked together on "Viceroy's House," the British-Indian movie that starred Hugh Bonneville, Huma Qureshi and Gillian Anderson.

The six-part series takes place on the cusp of 19th century in Delhi, and follows the residents of Beecham House, an imposing mansion surrounded by exotic woods and pristine lawns. Dashing former soldier John Beecham has acquired the house to start a new life for his family and a business as a trader. Beecham's life, however, is shrouded in mystery, leading to gossip and speculation that he is running from danger or tragedy.

The series will be filmed in India later this year for air in 2019.

Chadha says Beecham House is a passion project "driven by my commitment to telling diverse, emotionally engaging stories for mainstream international audiences."

The director is also developing feature "Blinded By The Light", a comedy/drama adapted from Sarfraz Manzoor's 2007 memoir "Greetings From Bury Park".
