IUML member injured in post-poll clash dies

A 55-year-old IUML activist today succumbed to injuries sustained in post civic poll clash allegedly involving workers of his party and CPIM members in neighbouring Kannur district, police said.

K V M Kunhi, who was among nine persons injured in the clash on November 2 night near Thaliparamba, died at a private hospital, they said.

Crude bombs and lethal weapons were used during the clash and Kunhi, the Treasurer of Thaliparamba IUML Municipal Committee, was seriously injured when a bomb exploded.

No arrests had been made so far in connection with the clash. Cases had been registered against 300 persons under various IPC sections and Explosives Substances Act, police added.
 

The state went for the first of the two-phased elections for local bodies on November 2 with the final phase slated tomorrow.
