J-K aims to complete construction of 7K PMAY houses by March

The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Department (JKRDD) plans to complete the construction of 7,000 houses under the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) by March-end.

The department has been assigned a target of 7,000 houses and construction of these would be completed by the end of March, an official spokesman said.

"Construction of houses for homeless people in Jammu and Kashmir is going on in full-swing under the centrally- sponsored Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana that aims at providing houses to all by 2022 in the country," he said.

The department is working on the construction of 8,642 houses and will 7,000 houses by the end of March, Commissioner-Secretary Nirmal Sharma said.
 

Under the scheme financial assistance of Rs 1.3 lakh per unit is provided in three instalments, the officer said.

"Besides, assistance of Rs 12,000 is provided for construction of toilets under convergence with the Swachh Bharat Mission," Sharma said.
