J-K approves creation of Law Commission

TheJammu and Kashmir government today approved the establishment of the maiden Law Commission in the state.

The approval for establishing the commission was granted at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here.

The Law Commission will identify laws which have become obsolete over a period of time and need to be repealed, amended or updated, a statement said.

The Law Commission would also consider and convey to the state government its views on any subject relating to law and judicial administration that may be specifically referred to it by the government.

The body will be headed by a chairperson with two full- time members and two part-time members.The tenure of the chairperson and the two part-time members would be for a period of three years, the statement said.
