J-K: Army gives Rs 3 lakh compensation to civilian after 3 yrs

Army today handed over a cheque of Rs 3.83 lakh as compensation to a civilian, employed as a porter with the Armed forces, three years after he injured his foot by stepping on a minefield.

"Army today handed over the compensation cheque of Rs 3,83,507 to Shabir Ahmed, resident of Nawa Runda, who was employed as a porter with the Indian Army," a Defence spokesman said here.

While on duty on June 16, 2011, Shabir had grievously injured his right foot by stepping on a minefield, the spokesman said.

Shabir's native place Nawa Runda is situated in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
