BJP today held protest demonstrations here over the suspension of its party MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma from the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly after he got engaged in a verbal duel with a state minister.

The BJP activists led by party's National Executive Member and former state president Nirmal Singh held a massive demonstration at Nagrota and also blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for more than one hour.

"The decision of the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government to suspend BJP MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma from Legislative Assembly for raising voice against anti-national elements and protesting against discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh is an assault on the democratic rights of the people and a challenge to the nationalist forces in the state," Singh told reporters here.

"Under such circumstances, the chief minister has lost the moral right to continue in the office and sooner he goes, better it would be for the state," the BJP leader alleged.

Leader of BJP Legislature Party Ashok Khajuria, while addressing the activists, said that the state government has least concern for the development and equal treatment to all the three regions of the state.

The BJP MLA was suspended on March 19 after he got engaged in a heated exchange of words with Social Welfare minister Sakina Itoo.
