J&K Congress unit today condemned the ceasefire violations along the IB and LoC in Jammu region by Pakistani army, calling to attention the "worsening situation at the borders".
"We strongly condemn the unabated firing from across the border causing loss of lives and injuries to the civilians and security forces. The worsening situation on the border and LoC in the state, is a cause of serious concern," Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) spokesman said.
He said that in a meeting of senior Congress leaders presided over by JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, serious concern was expressed over the continued incidents of firing from Pakistan which has made the life of the people living along the Indo-Pak border and near LOC, miserable.
The Congress leaders felt that the large number of such incidents during the past over 13 months is the highest in number and magnitude post 1971 Indo-Pak war, he said.
The party also called for reflecting on the peace efforts initiated by both sides in this direction.
The utterances of Pakistan and happenings before and after the joint declaration of the two Prime Ministers at Ufa in Russia, recently, indicate that Pakistan is not sincere in its words and action in the direction of normalization of relations with India, he said.
"The claims of the Modi government of achieving a major breakthrough by exerting positive pressure in the direction of improving relations and confronting terrorist activities there, does not seem to be yielding any positive results," he said.
The Congress leaders maintained that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those living near LOC and Indo-Pak border, are directly affected by the prevailing situation between the two countries.
Pakistani troops today pounded a number of places along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region with heavy firing and mortars, leaving four persons injured and triggering fear among the villagers, officials said.
One Indian woman and nearly 10 others have been injured in Akhnoor sector of Jammu so far, following the ceasefire violations since yesterday.
The Army early this morning also foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Poonch district by a group of militants trying to enter the Indian side, the defence spokesman said.
