The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today welcomed the meeting between Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif but said the talk was mere "rhetoric" and no "breakthrough achieved."
"Modi-Sharief meeting in Russia is a welcome move", JKPCC President and former Minister Gulam Ahmed Mir said here.
Mir said "Much has been said regarding Modi-Sharief meet that took place in Russia, there were high expectations that talks would lead to a major breakthrough and would be result oriented, but nothing concrete have happened during the meet".

Taking a dig at Modi, Mir said "talks between Modi and Sharief were just rhetoric. No breakthrough achieved so far".
JKPCC Chief said that Congress Party would welcome and support any move that would lead to complete peace on the borders and between the two Countries (India and Pakistan).
He said Congress Party wants cordial atmosphere with neighbours but at the same time won't compromise on National integrity and sovereignty.
Hitting out at Modi and BJP double standards over their statements that talks and cross-border firing cannot go together, Mir said "talks were resumed at the time when borders have again woken to ceasefire violations and firing in which two BSF jawans were killed and another injured."
"Why then did Modi government put a halt unnecessarily on talks a year ago,"? he asked.
