Jammu and Kashmir government will roll out an immediate 'prize and punishment' policy in the state to ensure time-bound results in the educational sector and raise the education standards of the state-run schools.

The Minister of State for education and culture Priya Sethi said that "those in educational sector who perform the best to ensure time-bound results and raising standards of government schools will get rewarded."

Addressing teachers here, she said, "We need to create role models of change for better in the educational setup of the government from lower level school to colleges and universities."

At the same time, she tolled warning bells for the non-performers and said "those who do not perform or engage in any type of activity and downgrade the educational standards of government schools will face punishment."

The formula of immediate 'prize and punishment' in the state would be put in place to ensure time-bound results, she said.

Those among best performers would be given promotions, best postings on important posts, medals and certificates along with cash awards as per the policy of awards of the education department, she said.

The non-performers will face demotion, withhelding of increments, suspensions and red entries and remarks in their APRs, she said.

Keeping in with the policy of prize and punishment in view, Sethi paid visits at various educational institutes in Jammu to check the progress of various reforms and innovation taken by the government in less than 10 months.

During surprise check at Kachi Chawani government school, minister asked the students to note her number to ensure registration of any complaints directly to her.

"If there is any problem, just talk to me. If you want to give any suggestion for better facilities and education, just call me. I am available to you," she said.

The minister called Power Development department on the spot to ensure construction of boundary wall around a big electric transformer which was kept in open ground of the school, the official said.
