J-K Engineers booked in graft case

Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has booked several engineers for allegedly drawing nearly Rs 25 lakh for the construction of a bridge in Udhampur district, which was not eventually constructed.

A case of corruption has been registered against the then Executive Engineer S P Gupta, Ram Singh the then AEE, Verinder Kumar the then JE, Public Wroks Department (PWD) Division Udhampur, and others on the basis of a Joint Surprise Check, an SVO Spokesman said.

The probe was conducted into the allegations in a complaint against PWD R&B Division Udhampur for drawing Rs 24.25 lakh against the construction of bridge over Devak Nallah at Benisang. In reality, no bridge has been actually constructed over there, he said.
