J-K gets its first all women post office

Jammu and Kashmir today got its first all women post office.

The post office, which was inaugurated by Jammu and KAshmir Chief Post Master General, John Samuel, is the first of its kind in the state and fourth across the entire country, with two such post offices currently operating in New Delhi and Mumbai.

The all women post office in Jammu, operated entirely by women staff, is located at Kanak Mandi area of the city.

"Acknowledging the role of women in society, Department of Posts has set up the all women post office here in Jammu," Samuel said.

"The objective is to provide leadership opportunities to women," he said adding that this is the first fully air-conditioned post office in the state.
 

"The all women post office will surely boost their morale besides giving clear signal to the society that women are not lagging behind in any field," Samuel said.

The new post office will offer traditional and modern services like booking of registered and speed post articles, e-money order, Western Union Money Transfer, e-payment besides savings bank transactions, Samuel informed.

Samuel also announced that an all women post office will soon be opened in Srinagar city.
