J&K gets new Chief Information Commissioner

Retired IAS officer Khursheed A Ganai was today appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir.

Governor N N Vohra appointed Ganai as the State Chief Information Commissioner, an official spokesman said.

Ganai's appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post, the spokesman said.

The Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission had been non-functional since November, 2016 when the lone Information Commissioner Nazir Ahmed completed his term.

Out of two Information Commissioners and one CIC, S K Sharma completed his term as Information Commissioner on October 31, 2015 and Chief Information Commissioner G R Sufi on February 29, 2016.
 

The State Information Commission was established under the provisions of J&K Right to Information Act in February, 2011.
