Concerned over spurt in loss of human lives in traffic accidents, Jammu and Kashmir government today said the State Motor Vehicle act would be strengthened to deal with traffic offences.
"The government is working for providing more teeth to existing State Motor Vehicle Act," Transport Minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan said addressing the inaugural function of two-day 235th Standing Committee meet (supplies and contracts) at SKICC here.
The meet was organised by Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation in collaboration with Delhi-based Association of State Road Transport Undertaking (ASRTU).

"There is a need for formulation of Transport Policy and Road Safety Policy for traffic regulation," the minister said.
Speaking about the formation of J&K State Road Transport Corporation, the Minister said SRTC fleet was initially started with hundreds of buses and load carriers and now it has swollen to thousands and plying in and outside the state.
"More vehicles will be added to the fleet in near future," he said.
"J-K would adopt best policies of other states for making the SRTC functioning more vibrant", he said.
