Jammu and Kashmir government today announced winter vacations for schools in Kashmir division and other areas falling under the winter zone of the state.

The winter vacations for up to standard 8th will begin from December 17 while those for 9th to 12th standard it will begin from December 24, an order issued by the Education Department reads.

The schools are scheduled to reopen on March 1, 2017.

The schools in Kashmir valley have remained mostly shut since July this year due to unrest triggered by killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces.

As there was no let-off in the separatist-sponsored shut downs in the Valley, the state government announced mass promotion for all students to the next level except for 10th and 12th standard students who appeared in annual board examinations last month.
