"We are eagerly waiting for Saif-ud-Din Soz-led coordination committee report to go for block Panchayat council elections which would follow elections to the district councils," Abdullah said while addressing public rallies in Akhnoor belt of Jammu today.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress President and MP Saif-ud-din Soz is the chairman of coordination committee of the coalition partners National Conference and Congress to decide the common minimum programme of the government.

The BDC polls were deferred in the state in order to incorporate some sections of the 73rd amendment to the Constitution in the state's Panchayati Raj Act. The polls were earlier scheduled to be held in November.

The committee's report will recommend which sections of the 73rd amendment should be incorporated into the state Act to empower Panchayati Raj System in the state.

Abdullah said Public Service Guarantee Act and other measures were taken by the coalition government to bring transparency, reduce corruption at lower levels and upgrade governance.

Referring to working of the coalition, he said, "We joined our hands to achieve this target and we are moving towards it amicably and jointly." Fighting elections for MLC seats jointly by NC and Congress has provided good opportunity to the workers of both the parties to percolate coalition to the grass root, he said.

Abdullah said besides registering huge achievements on development front, his government has been able to create conducive and palatable atmosphere in the state.

"After a period of more than 20 years we are witnessing tranquil and calm atmosphere in the state for which the coalition government worked hard," he said.

"I want Jammu and Kashmir financially rich and not dependent on central support for development and growth but plenty enough to offer support to other states," he said.
