Jammu and Kashmir government today called for constitution of Internal Complaints Committees for prevention and redressal of complaints of harassment of women at workplaces in all subordinate offices and at district-level within one month.

"On the instructions of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Government has enjoined upon all Administrative Secretaries and District Magistrates to ensure that Internal Complaints Committees for prevention and redressal of harassment of women at workplaces be constituted in all subordinate offices and at district-level within one month," an official spokesman said.

He said the Chief Minister had taken a serious view of non-implementation of the earlier instructions in this regard.

As per a circular issued by the Social Welfare Department, in case of pendency after one month, strict administrative action will be recommended against the officials concerned, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said action taken by the HoDs in the matter may be immediately reported to the respective administrative secretaries.

However, in case of District Magistrates, the compliance report is to be submitted to the Social Welfare Department, which is the nodal agency, he said quoting the circular.

He said the circular is in compliance to the provisions regarding mechanism for prevention and redressal of complaints of harassment at workplaces as stipulated under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplaces (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
