"The state government is taking the required steps to develop remote and far-flung areas to provide all basic facilities to people," state Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo said after inaugurating a 50-bedded Other Backward Classes (OBC) hostel in Higher Secondary School at Kathua.

The hostel will provide accommodation to the students of backward classes and remote areas, facing hardships in finding a residential settlement while studying in the town, she said.

The minister said that hostel had been a long pending demand of local residents.

"This is the first hostel for OBC students in Jammu province," she said adding, "It will help students of remote and far-flung areas in finding accommodation while pursing higher education."

"The government has initiated several projects to develop all three regions of the state," the minister said.
