Jammu & Kashmir government today approved rationalisation of the electricity duty by reducing the existing rate of 22 per cent to 10 per cent in respect of all consumers.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting of the state government chaired by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here.
The Cabinet also approved waiver of 100 per cent surcharge on outstanding electricity bills as on August 1, 2015, provided the domestic consumer makes the outstanding payment by or before March 31, 2016, in maximum of four equal installments, an official spokesman said.
The domestic and agriculture, excluding government, categories of consumers who have fully paid their bills shall not be eligible under this scheme, the spokesman said.
He said the cabinet also asked Power Development Department to organise special camps in each division of the state for successful implementation of the scheme.
The Cabinet also passed instructions for the J&K State Electricity Regulatory Commission to review distribution of tariff structure twice a year and make recommendations to the government for its consideration.
